How Much Do You Love Handmade Carpets?

The world has seen a constant turnover and rotation of dynasties over the millennia, but the British royal family is an exception. The British royal family is one of the oldest in existence, having been the princess of England for more than a thousand years, starting in 829, making it a true millennial royal family.

The British royal family is known to reside in some of the most prestigious buildings in the world, such as Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace. However, the family has some lesser-known residences throughout the United Kingdom, and today we will take a look at how luxurious these royal residences are.

  • Kensington Palace

Kensington Palace, the birthplace and childhood home of Queen Victoria, has 547 rooms. Since mid-2017, it has been the main residence of the Prince William and Catherine Middleton families, with four floors and 20 rooms.

Kensington Palace is also the former home of Princess Diana, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Several of the main halls here are covered mainly with Axminster carpets (Brintons axminster). These carpets are strictly machine woven and are mostly full size designs.

  • Highgrove House

Highgrove House, located near Tetbury in Gloucestershire, southwest England, was built in the 18th century and changed hands several times before becoming the home of the Charles family in 1980 and refurbished in 1987. Charles often took Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry to spend weekends here.

The main room of the estate is decorated in a typical English country style, with many ethnic textiles and blue and white porcelain, paintings on the yellow walls, and a pink handmade carpet on the floor.

  • Bagshot Park

Bagshot Park, the 57-room royal residence, was the home of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Sousse. The residence was rebuilt in 1879 and is owned by Prince Arthur, the third son of Queen Victoria.

As aerial photographs of the residence attest, the house is surrounded by an abundance of lush green space. Huge gardens and shaded grounds are dotted with a series of trees, bushes and paths – as well as a huge driveway in front of the house. Because of Bagshot Park’s proximity to Windsor Castle, it is said that Queen Elizabeth often popped in for tea without a greeting when she was alive. The photo below is of one of the large living rooms, and the strong courtly atmosphere can be felt from the vintage decorations all over the house, with this large blue handmade rug on the floor being full of ambiance.

After looking at these magnificent royal residences, one has to marvel at the extravagant lives of the nobility. But another way to think, although we can not afford to live in such a luxurious castle, but still can buy a classical and elegant handmade carpet to comfort our ordinary time.
